"Gigi Proietti is Sandokan and transmits uproarious wisdom through his mimicking capacities, all the while trying to follow the writer's intentions, who, every other sentence, forces his main character into unreasonable mood swings, into cries that have nothing human, into male expressions." (Carlo Hinterman)

Ugo Gregoretti (Rome, Italy, 1930) is a writer and director of television and radio dramas (from Le tigri di Mompracem to Il conte di Montecristo). He started his career as a film director with I nuovi angeli (1962). The following year, he directed Omicron and the Il pollo ruspante episode which was included in Ro.Go.Pa.G. In 1969, he continued with Apollon. In 1977, he made Le uova fatali, while in 1989, he directed Maggio musicale. In 2011, together with Citto Maselli, Carlo Lizzani and Nino Russo, he presented Scossa out of competition in Venice. Beyond directing, Gregoretti is also a screenwriter and has even sometimes appeared in films as an actor (C'eravamo tanto amati, Domani accadrà, Il comune senso del pudore, Un povero ricco, La terrazza).
