It is early summer, Agathe has come back to France and is at home in Montreuil. She is trying to recover from her husband's death and wants to return to working as a film director. The unexpected arrival at her house of a mother and son from Iceland, a sea lion and a neighbour who she has always desired but never managed to seduce, will give Agathe the strength to get her life back on track.
"Queen of Montreuil is a comedy about Agathe, and the closure that she will finally get thanks to the arrival of Icelanders accompanied by a sea lion. Queen of Montreuil is about the families we create for ourselves, because sometimes, standing on your own two feet is hard without roots, and because in any case surrounding yourself with many people is better than being alone." (Sólveig Anspach)
Sólveig Anspach (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland, 1960) is a 1989 graduate of the FEMIS Film School in Paris, having previously completed her studies in philosophy and clinical psychology in the same city. Anspach has directed more than a dozen documentary medium-length films, including Sandrine a Paris (1992), Reykjavik, Elves in the City (2001) and Made in the USA (Cannes, 2001). Haut les coeurs! (Cannes, 1999) won many international prizes and earned Karin Viard a César in 2000 for Best Actress. Recognition continued with Stormy Weather four years later, which was selected for the Un Certain Regard section in Cannes. In 2008, Anspach directed Skrapp Ut, previewed at Locarno, where she received the Variety Award. Before Queen of Montreuil, she also filmed Louise Michel for television featuring Sylvie Testud as the main actress. She is currently working on her next film Lulu, Femme Nue with Karin Viard, and an adaptation of Fredric Brown's book The Far Cry.
