This documentary recounts the life of Lino Miccichè - intellectual, critic, film historian, essayist and cultural events organiser - from the privileged point of view of his son, filmmaker Francesco Miccichè. Through the story of Lino Miccichè's intense human adventure, and with the help of unpublished material provided by the RAI Archives and the archives of the Italian Workers' Movement, the film retraces an important chapter in the history of Italian film from the late 1950s to the present, and also serves as a meditation on a father's generation and the legacy it has bequeathed to its children.

"When you make a film about your father you embark on a journey. Mine started when he was still alive, and may not be over yet. Nearly ten years after my father's death, I felt I needed to reflect on a life that gave so much to film, and did so much for it as well. My father had a very clear ‘vision of the world' in his head, and he tried to improve the real world to make it correspond to that vision. At the end of the day, the questions that Lino Miccichè's generation asked are not all that different from our own. The point is that their answers, clear as they were, did not suffice to change the world; will ours be able to?" [Francesco Miccichè]

Francesco Miccichè is a director, screenwriter and cinematographer. He has made numerous short films and documentaries. He wrote and directed the short Forbidden Kisses, starring Pierfrancesco Favino, which premiered at the 53rd Venice Film Festival. For television, he also directed the first four years of Rai Tre's sports programme Sfide. He wrote the treatment for Rai Uno's miniseries Liberi di giocare, collaborated on the script and also directed the series. He has directed many television series for both RAI and Mediaset.
