Reuniting some of the original cast members of the classic Mr. Vampire series, Rigor Mortis stars action movie veteran Chin Siu-ho as a former vampire-hunting actor who now finds himself reaching the end of the line as a washed-up star who is also separated from his wife and alienated from his son. Down on his luck and with barely a dollar to his name, he checks into room 2442 in the housing estate, which is allegedly a haunted flat. His aim is to end his misery by doing himself in, but instead Siu-ho is interrupted by some of the other "occupants" of the building, including a Taoist master-exorcist, a traumatized housewife with a tragic past, as well as a seemingly benign elderly woman who has an empty coffin conspicuously hanging in the middle of her apartment. Soon it becomes apparent to Siu-ho that the people around him and the situation are far from normal. Despite his lack of belief in superstition, Siu-ho is soon thrust into the battle of his life against vicious vampires.

"Vampire and zombie movies have played an important and popular part throughout Western cinematic history. Hong Kong also has its very own version of a legendary vampire genre known as 'Geung Si' or Chinese hopping vampires. A unique genre that combines thrill, suspense, ghosts, traditional mythology, action and comedy. A genre once so popular worldwide, but suddenly it disappeared and was never heard of again for almost 30 years now. [...] I was born in 1984 and the first Mr Vampire was released in 1985. I grew up being fascinated by the 'Geung Si' subject and I remember replaying the series over and over again on VHS, constantly rewinding to dissect particular scenes of interest. Thus a directorial debut in this subject couldn't make any more sense to me." [Juno Mak]

As a pop singer, fashion ambassador and movie actor, writer, director and producer, Juno Mak (b. 1984, Hong Kong) has led a highly diversified career since he entered the entertainment business in 2002. He started his music career with the Cantopop label Universal Music, before moving on to the record company Silly Thing, where he began producing his own albums and music videos. Juno Mak's acting turns include starring roles in Pang Ho-cheung's Trivial Matters and Dream Home, and Wong Ching-po's Revenge: A Love Story (Mak's first co-writing effort) and Let's Go!, which Mak co-produced. Rigor Mortis is Mak's feature-length directorial debut.
