Once again exploring the enduring magic of popular music, Carlos Saura delves into Argentine folklore to offer a fascinating tour of the past, present and future of a genre that profoundly shaped the filmmaker as a young man. Saura's meeting with some of the best artists and groups from Argentina, along with the rich repertoire of the genre, will allow us a glimpse of a very particular vision of an art that is only as old as the people that made it famous, creating a cultural document for the coming age, to which Saura adds scenic magnetism and originality.
"The mirrors are the scenography's essential elements; we study the combinations and we experiment with them, alongside the director of photography, Félix "Chango" Monti. Big floor-to-ceiling mirrors cover the walls like a dance studio, or else smaller mirrors like the ones in a makeup or dressing room. Mobile mirrors are put in place for better lighting or camera conditions, sometimes lined up, sometimes not, depending on the circumstances. This is an evolution of former experiences like Blood Wedding, Tango, Iberia, Fados or Flamenco, Flamenco." [Carlos Saura]

CARLOS SAURA (Huesca, 1932) moved to Madrid when he was young and studied industrial engineering, only to give up this career to pursue his true calling at the Instituto de Investigaciones y Estudios Cinematográficos (Cinematographic Study and Research Institute). His first film was The Delinquents, but success arrived three years later with The Hunt, which won him the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlinale. In the same period he lost his teaching job for strictly political reasons (Franco's censorship). He went on to make many award-winning films and documentaries, including Cousin Angelica in 1973 (Special Jury Prize at Cannes), Cria Cuervos in 1975 (the same prize at Cannes), and Fast, Fast in 1981 (Golden Bear at the Berlinale). Saura was thrice nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign-Language Film, for his films Mama Turns 100, Carmen and Tango.
