Nicola spends his time drinking and pretending that he's on the wagon. This is his story, and the story of all the other characters he meets by fate or by chance, like in a road movie. So it's also the story of Sabatino, who scams the insurance companies, causing accidents. Concellino also makes a living off of insurance fraud, but he's got ambitions. It's the story of Anna and her son Salvatore. And Nicola's mother, a tiny matriarch who hopes to live long enough to see her son marry Sofia. It's the story of the ‘Abruzzese' and Sasà, Marino, who never says a word, and a little Ukrainian girl. On top of all this, there's the story of the American girl who cruises around Italy dressed as a bride.
"The title says it all. Long Live the Bride! A beautiful blonde steps into the lives of an assortment of poor devils. A bride who turns heads: looking at the bride helps them all to go on, but real life is something else altogether. Wittgenstein would say that philosophy is one way to smash idols, but also a way to stop creating new ones. Yet…without idols we can barely get by at all." [Ascanio Celestini]

When ASCANIO CELESTINI (Rome, 1972) writes for the stage or screen, he does extensive research in the field, investigating historical events and issues involving the recent past and the collective imagination. Radio clandestina, Scemo di guerra, La pecora nera and Appunti per un film sulla lotta di classe are just a few of Celestini's plays performed in Italy and abroad. Among his numerous awards, in 2002 he won the Special UBU Prize, while three years later he received kudos for his play Scemo di guerra. After making his directorial debut in 2004 with the documentary Senza paura, he made a second one three years later, Parole sante, which premiered at the Rome Film Festival in the Extra section, and lent its name to the title of an album (which won the Ciampi Award for Best Debut Album). In 2010 Pecora nera, Celestini's debut feature, screened in competition at the Venice Film Festival. His books are published by Einaudi and Donzelli.
