9. GIORNATE DEGLI AUTORI - VENICE DAYS
August 30th - September 8th, 2012
The ninth edition of the Giornate degli Autori/Venice Days 2012 will open on the 30th of August with the special project Women's Tales, in collaboration with our creative partner Miu Miu and under the direction of Giorgio Gosetti.
Promoted by the Italian Filmmakers Association ANAC and 100autori, chaired by Roberto Barzanti, and realized thanks to the Culture Ministry's General Direction of Cinema together with our sponsors and private partners such as BNL Gruppo BNP Paribas group and SIAE, the 2012 Venice Days will have three distinctive features: the female creative gaze with the Women's Tales project which will take up the first three days of the festival; the advent of Cinema Corsaro, a program in the name of research and experimental cinema self-managed by a collective of directors that will take place from the 2nd to the 6th of September; a reflection on Cinema of Zero Years, a dialogue of multiple voices that will be held on the 5th and 6th of September in collaboration with the Mostra.
"The idea of an independent section of the Festival" - says Giorgio Gosetti "cannot only be based on the quality of the films presented. This explains the program and its complete articulation, the strength of this year's selection, which we wanted to be strongly characterized and varied through its themes and languages. We are proud of the world premieres both in the Official Selection as well as in the Venice Nights (the open-air arena of the Casa degli Autori). But even more important is the dialogue between Italian cinema and the International filmmakers that have chosen to accept our invitation".
It is often said that at the Venice Days, the true stars are the films, movies that recount the story of the passage of time signed by masters who have the courage to get back in the game, newcomers who are treading down new paths, valued directors who find an important stage here at the oldest festival in the world, ahead of its younger counterparts. Nevertheless, in this year's 30 worldwide premiere films there are many famous names; a special encounter between cinema, history, music and contemporary themes.
Program includes Hiam Abbass (the protagonist of The Syrian Bride and Miral) both in front and behind the camera for the first time (next to Hafsia Herzi) together with an icon of Nordic cinema such as Sólveig Anspach; Vincenzo Marra who takes a portrait the reality with the unique strength of his cinema and Stefano Mordini bringing the literary talent of Silvia Avallone; the rapper Bebson De La Rue in the chaos of Kinshasa and the star Sarah Polley who tells the stories of her family. Jesper Ganslandt will be back for the third time to Venic Days, while other first-time directors in the program are Rusudan Chkonia and Amir Manor. Massy Tadjedin will premiere her new feature in the Women's Tales.
Then there is the unique meeting between Bob Wilson, Marina Abramovic, Willem Dafoe, Anthony Hegarty narrated by Giada Colagrande, and the voices of the 20h century, self-taught writer Vincenzo Rabito portrayed by Costanza Quatriglio and political leader Pietro Ingrao by Filippo Vendemmiati; Sergio Rubini and Luigi Lo Cascio; Zoe Cassavetes and Lucrecia Martel; Masbedo and Francesco De Gregori. And we are only just getting started…
